Kingston Financial Centre

Jim co-founded Kingston Financial Centre in 1988 with his late partner and friend, David Porco. Prior to opening Kingston Financial Centre, Jim spent 16 years in the life insurance industry. He has completed many professional development courses in life insurance, estate and retirement planning, investment planning and portfolio theory. Jim is a graduate of Queen's University with a B.A. in Economics. He is a past president of the Kingston Life Underwriters Association and the Kingston and District CLU Chapter.  Jim is a member of the Financial Advisors Association of Canada (Advocis) and the Registered Deposit Brokers Association.

Jim was also a founding shareholder and Director of FundEX Investments Inc. FundEX, an MFDA registrant, has grown to become one of Canada's largest mutual fund dealers. In 2004, Jim successfully negotiated FundEX's merger with Industrial Alliance, a leading national insurance company.

Jim is a long term member of the Kingston Rotary Club and is Chair, Endowment Fund, of the Boys & Girls Club of Kingston & Area.  Jim also co-founded Junior Achievement of Kingston & Area.

Jim enjoys spending time with his family at their Bobs Lake cottage and playing golf at the Cataraqui Golf & Country Club.

With Jim's support, Kingston Financial Centre has been an active supporter of the Grand Theatre as well as the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston & Area.

Tom, a Chartered Accountant, joined Kingston Financial Centre in 2000.  Before becoming part of the team, Tom was a partner in a local accounting firm that helped clients develop and implement financial strategies for growth and prosperity.

Tom's specialties include business planning, retirement and estate concerns and personal tax issues.  Tom operates a tax preparation service on behalf of clients and also acts as an advisor to the rest of the team on various tax planning concerns.

As Branch Manager, Tom is responsible for ensuring that Kingston Financial Centre exceeds the high level of compliance standards set by the securities regulators.

Tom is a graduate of Queen's University School of Business and returned to Kingston in 1984 with his wife, Nancy.  They have a son, Jamie.  Tom is actively involved in the Kingston community, plays recreational hockey, curls, and enjoys an occasional round of golf.

Sharon joined Kingston Financial Centre in 1999.  Her entire career has been dedicated to the investment and insurance industry.  She holds her mutual funds and labour sponsored funds licenses and is currently studying to obtain her FLMI designation.  Sharon works closely with clients in supporting and managing their financial relationships with Jim Vowles and Kingston Financial Centre.

Sharon is a published poet, nature enthusiast and a capella harmony singer with Sweet Adelines International.  She is on the Board of Directors for the Sweet Adelines and enriches Kingston and surrounding communities through voluntary performances and by sharing her joy of music.

Rick joined Kingston Financial Centre in 1997 after spending six years with a major Canadian bank. He completed the Institute of Canadian Bankers Investment Funds of Canada course as well as the Institute's Introduction to Business course at Queen's University.

Rick provides personalized investment guidance, retirement and estate advice, and specializes in life insurance products and mutual funds.

Kathryn is a financial services professional with thirty years extensive and varied experience in bank, trust, brokerage, mutual fund and insurance company environments.

She has worked in senior and responsible positions in the financial industry in Toronto and in New York and returned to Kingston where she was raised. She joined Kingston Financial Centre in 2005 and her designations include Certified Financial Planner, Elder Planning Counselor and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst.

Kathryn assists individuals to understand, plan and reach their financial and personal goals with a particular emphasis on investment, insurance and estate, charitable giving and legacy planning.

She has been a guest speaker many times for St. Lawrence College and Queen's University discussing Elder Law and Financial Planning; the Queen's University Retirees Association (RAQ) discussing Benefits, Group Pension Plans and the need for out of country travel insurance; and the Queen's University Staff Association (QUSA) speaking on Elder Planning

Kathryn is a graduate of Queen's University. She is a member of ADVOCIS; the Estate Planning Council of Eastern Ontario; Kingston Women's Network and she recently became a member of the Social Investment Organization - The Canadian Association for Socially Responsible Investing.

Kathryn is active in the Kingston community primarily with church work, as a Governor of Kingston General Hospital, the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation and the Leave a Legacy initiative for Southeastern Ontario. She is a Faculty Member of the Canadian Initiative for Elder Planning Studies.

In 2008 Kathryn was honoured as one of the World Charity Award recipients.
She is a happy golfer.

Virginia joined Kingston Financial Centre in 1991 with twenty years of financial services experience in credit and investment administration. She has successfully completed the Investment Funds Institute of Canada Investment Funds Course.

Ginny is responsible for the management of our GIC portfolio and providing computer and technical support to our financial planners. Ginny also assists with the corporate financial affairs.
